The CHALLENGE
Completed in 1987, this project involved a full tear-off of the existing coal tar pitch roofing system down to the cast-in-place concrete roof deck.
The SOLUTION
The two-ply Laurenco waterproofing membrane was installed, followed by protection course, a 2-inch leveled pea gravel course, and pedestal-supported pavers to create durable and serviceable roof and plaza deck assemblies. The building’s glazed facade and the presence of an occupied executive penthouse required strict sequencing and daily restoration of access areas to maintain uninterrupted use. On the east elevation, a large planter assembly, approximately 30 feet in depth and extending the width of the building, was fully waterproofed using the same Laurenco system to ensure long-term protection beneath landscaped elements.
