The CHALLENGE
The Hartford Convention Center is one of the largest private venues in the state of Connecticut. Its grand outdoor stairs and upper plaza deck were subject to active water leaks into the interior spaces below. The repairs required the complete removal and replacement of the existing overburden and waterproofing.
A combination of the Laurenco RMA rubber modified asphalt waterproofing and the reinforced PMMA polymethyl methacrylate flashing resin was used to replace the failing rubberized asphalt waterproofing. The new waterproofing was installed through a range of seasons from the heat of the summer through the colder temperatures of the autumn and winter due to the available seasonal blends of the products and the specific material properties that allow its installation in cold weather and freezing temperatures. The flexibility of our proprietary PMMA resin accommodated the different geometries of the various field conditions and details as it integrated into our RMA as a composite flashing, resulting in a resolution to all the prior leaks
