The CHALLENGE
Portland International Airport has been billed as “America’s Best Airport” because of its recent and ongoing capital improvements. The lauded aesthetic of the airport consists of giant skylights, vaulted wooden ceilings, imported trees and green landscaping. It is in the latter feature of the airport that Laurenco was utilized to great effect.
The SOLUTION
While the entire envelope had some element of Laurenco integrated into it, like the below grade waterproofing, elevator pits, perimeter flashings at exterior walls, and slabs, it is the grand interior planter configurations that are detailed with the reinforced PMMA resin that make it possible for the landscape plantings and the imported exotic tree species to thrive leak free inside the airport.
