The CHALLENGE
The St. Louis Arch is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River and built over the park museum that suffered from over twenty interior leaks originating from expansion joints, penetrations, and field transitions.
The SOLUTION
The existing composite PVC and coal tar pitch waterproofing and its overburden was removed to the structural deck and replaced with the FBC-Laurenco rubber modified asphalt waterproofing. The compatibility of the material with coal tar pitch residuals expedited the installation by not requiring the complete scarification of the deck. Subsequently, the new visitor center facility was built adjacent to the museum and FBC-Laurenco waterproofing was again used to waterproof the new construction.
