The deck services approximately 250,000 square feet of elevated parking area, forming the roof of the convention facility below. ## The SOLUTION During the 1997 renovation, the original paver system was removed and replaced with a 4-inch cast-in-place concrete topping slab; and due to the tenacious bond of the existing Laurenco membrane, it remained in place and was overlaid with an additional two-ply waterproofing system. Subsequent expansions in 2003, including parking ramps and additional deck areas, followed a similar split-slab configuration consisting of a structural slab, two-ply Laurenco membrane, protection layer, and 4-inch reinforced concrete topping slab.
